Development of a high-purity factor X for patients with hereditary factor X deficiency |

Bio Products Laboratory (BPL) (www.bpl.co.uk) is a not-for-profit organisation that is part of the United Kingdom National Health Service, wholly owned by the British Government. BPL is developing a high-purity plasma-derived factor X concentrate, for use in patients with moderate and severe factor X deficiency (plasma levels ≤5 IU/dL). We hope it will offer an advantage over current treatment with FFP, or PCC given on-demand or as routine prophylaxis. BPL is now planning international clinical trials with its Factor X in both adults and children, starting in 2009. Trials will study the pharmacokinetics, safety and efficacy of this product. The trials will start in the US, Europe, Turkey and possibly other regions. BPL is also planning a clinical trial with its Factor X for prophylaxis in surgery, in patients with mild to severe factor X deficiency.
